we have utmost RESPECT FOR THE EXPERTISE DEVELOPED
BY ARTISANS OVER CENTURIES.

We are committed to consistent, long-term relationships with artisans and the exchange of techniques and knowledge. Maddalena Forcella has been collaborating with some of the artisans for over 30 years. The trust and confidence born out of these long-term relationships are at the foundation of our one-of-a-kind creations.

Local economic development, cultural preservation, sustainability and creating beautiful things are our pillars at Madda Studio.

AT MADDA STUDIO, WE BELIEVE IN THE BEAUTY AND VALUE OF THE HANDMADE PROCESS.

In a world where ready-made, mass-produced and readily disposable items are abundant, we believe in the enduring quality, variability and beauty of handcrafted goods.

Our textiles are unique in that they incorporate and respect a long lineage of traditions. We deeply value knowledge that has been passed down through generations. Practicing in this way, we support the preservation of ancient skills by incorporating them into a contemporary vision.

At Madda Studio, we cultivate an environment of collaboration and creative energy. The skilled labor involved at every stage of our process requires great care and time. Bridging the gap between our clients' timelines and those of the communities we collaborate with - in a way that aligns with their lifestyle and culture - has been one of our greatest challenges. We take pride in connecting these two worlds and are continuously adapting our processes.

WE ARE COMMITTED TO SOURCING SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS AND SUPPORTING LOCAL COMMUNITIES, BY PROVIDING STABLE EMPLOYMENT for THE PEOPLE
WE WORK with.

Wool is the raw material at the heart and soul of our work. To meet the volume needed for our projects, we collaborate with the nonprofit El Camino de Los Altos, based in San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas.

El Camino de Los Altos brings together 130 women textile artisans, whose skills and traditions enrich every piece we create. Together, we have developed a unique range of wool tones used throughout our textiles. Most recently, Madda Studio worked with the association to secure funding for the Wool Project through Los Amigos de Arte Popular. These funds help expand the group of spinners in Bautista Chico, a Chamula ethnic community within El Camino de Los Altos, providing tools, training and raw materials to support their business.

We know that the process of local economic development is gradual, and we are dedicated to nurturing it step by step. It is deeply important to us that our processes and creations have a positive impact on the people and communities behind them — and that the artisans’ skills are valued both within their communities, as well as in the international market.
