care instructions
Our textiles are infused with the richness of Mexican artisanal techniques and materials. To preserve their beauty and prolong their life, handle them with care and follow these instructions.
Rugs
Our rugs are made with handspun wool from Chiapas, Mexico. Wool is a naturally resilient and sustainable fiber that offers several unique advantages. It is naturally hypoallergenic, making it a good choice for people with allergies or sensitive skin.
Wool is also inherently flame-resistant, offering greater protection than many other fibers. Unlike synthetics, wool does not melt, drip, or stick to the skin when exposed to high heat. Additionally, wool produces less smoke and fewer toxic fumes than synthetic materials.
To maintain the beauty and longevity of your rug:
Vacuum regularly using suction only. Avoid beater bar brushes, which can damage the fibers.
Have your rug professionally cleaned at least once a year.
Use a non-slip rug pad to provide extra cushioning, prevent slipping, and protect the rug from wear over time.
Avoid direct sunlight and heat sources such as fireplaces or gas heaters, as these can dry out and fade naturally dyed fibers.
Rotate your rug periodically to promote even wear, either by turning it end-to-end or moving it to a different spot in your home.
Rugs made from natural fibers can be specially treated to help increase their life span and provide protection against stains, mould, mildew and sun fading. For example, customers may choose to undergo an additional Scotchgard treatment to enhance the stain resistance of their rug.
Please note that this process is not provided by nor is it the responsibility of Madda Studio. This treatment is applied after production and is delivered by a third party. Some professionals are able to apply the treatment at your premises, whether a residential or commercial setting, whilst others may require the removal of the rug for treatment.
COMPOUND WEAVE PILLOWS
Dry cleaning is recommended to preserve the integrity of the fabric and natural dyes.
Do not machine wash, as this may cause shrinking or distortion.
Never use a dryer. If spot cleaning is necessary, air-dry flat and away from direct sunlight or heat sources.
NUNO PILLOWS AND THROWS
Nuno felt is a delicate textile that requires gentle handling and care to preserve its unique texture and lightweight structure.
Dry cleaning is recommended to maintain the fabric’s texture and color.
Do not machine wash, as it may cause shrinking or fabric distortion.
Never use a dryer. Air-dry flat if spot cleaning is necessary.
Avoid placing pillows in high-traffic areas, as friction and overuse can lead to pilling and compromise the finely layered structure of Nuno felt.
TAPESTRIES
To protect your woven tapestry from dust, we recommend hanging it in a clean, dry area and gently vacuuming it on a low setting using a soft brush attachment every few months.
For Nuno tapestries, follow the same care instructions as for our Nuno pillows and throws.
PLACEMATS AND TABLE RUNNERS
Dry cleaning is recommended to best preserve the delicate structure and natural dyes.
If you prefer to wash by hand, gently soak the piece in cold water with a mild soap—avoid wringing or twisting. Rinse thoroughly and lay flat on a towel to air dry.
Always air dry flat to help maintain the shape of the piece. If edges become wavy or creased, iron gently under a pressing cloth or towel on low heat.
Do not use chemical cleaners, as they can cause colors to fade.
For stains, dab immediately with a clean, damp cloth. For oil-based stains, apply baby powder (talc) to absorb the oil before gently washing.
Do not use a dryer.
TEA TOWELS
For stains, treat immediately using a gentle, natural cleaner.
Machine washable and suitable for tumble drying.
Iron on a low setting if needed to restore smoothness.
FAQs
HOW TO TREAT STAINS?
If a stain occurs, blot it immediately with a clean cloth to absorb excess liquid. If the stain persists, use a mixture of warm water and mild soap to gently clean the affected area - avoid using vinegar, as it can alter the natural dyes. Do not rub. Rinse thoroughly to remove any soap residue. If the stain remains, we recommend seeking professional cleaning assistance.
WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF LOOSE THREADS?
Loose threads are a natural occurrence in handwoven textiles and can be easily addressed. Use a large crochet needle to gently guide the thread to the opposite side. Do not cut the thread, as this can cause further damage.
WHAT TO DO TO PREVENT INFESTATIONS?
Wool is prone to moth damage, especially when stored in dark, poorly ventilated spaces. To prevent infestations, keep your carpet in a well-ventilated area and vacuum regularly. For storage, ensure the rug is clean and tightly sealed in a plastic bag with camphor to protect it from pests.
